6 Year old visiting the cemetery?

Yesterday, my family and I went out of town for a break and while away we visited the family cemetery and placed flowers on our loved ones' graves. My six year old nephew was with us and he had not one clue what a cemetery was about. He overheard my sisters talking and found out that the cemetary holds the bodies of deceased people. Needless to say he was very distraught and the cemetery trip was cut short. He now is afraid to go to sleep and he told me that he didn't want me to die because he didn't want me to be in the ground. I'm afraid he may be traumatized and my sister isn't doing or saying anything. Any advise?

Sounds like he is very sensitive which isn't a bad thing. He should have been spoken to about visiting the cemetery beforehand. He is six years old and can understand things.

Talking about it is the best thing. I had to tlk to my son when my grandmother passed and the more u inform them and answer their ouestions it gives them a sense of understanding. Just be as truthful as possible. Good luck

Sounds like he needs the mortality talk. If your sister doesn't want to give it ask if you can. Just be sure that you have the same beliefs as her so he doesn't get confused.

Yeah, the cemetery can be scary for kids if they don't understand what it's all about.

I don't know if you are religious, but maybe try explaining to him that the dead people are really up in heaven. They don't need their bodies anymore. They are happy with God.

If you're not religious, then just explain to him that when people get really old or really sick, they go to sleep for a long time. They are resting in peace.

I wouldn't explain to your nephew yourself unless you talk to your sister about it first.

tell him that you are going to live a long time and you will always be with him the only people under there are over 90 and i am only(insert age) i have a long time to go

depending on your beliefs explain that the body is just a shell and when you die you don't need it anymore as you actually are with God in heaven  and you don't need that body anymore
