Can anyone explain to me what is meant by a 6-and-5 win in golf. I'm sure it's very logical and I'm just not quick enough on the uptake to get it. Thanks.

  1. It's a scoring system used in match play golf.  Two players go head to head against one another in an 18 hole match.  Rather than counting the total number of strokes each player takes over the 18 holes, scoring is done by deciding a winner for each hole played.  As an example if you and I played a match against one another and I shot a 4 on the first hole and you shot a 6, I'd win that hole.  On the second hole, you score a 3 and I score an 8.  You'd win the hole and even though your total strokes so far is 9 and mine is 12, we're even after two holes because we both won one hole.  If somebody wins a match 6 and 5 it means that he's won 6 more holes than the other guy and there are only 5 holes left to play.  Since the other guy can't catch up, the match ends and the winner 6 and 5.

  2. i dont know much about golf.

  3. When one hears about a 6 and 5 win in golf, someone is discussing the match play format( mano e mano) as compared to stroke play where total score counts. The normal match consists of 18 holes. In this case the winner was 6 holes ahead with only 5 remaining so the opponent did not have a chance to win and the match was over at the end of the 13th hole.
