6 day's late on period, neg preg test, bright red spotting for past 3 day's- what's going on?

As the question said I am 6 day's late. Now I've had bight red spotting for 3 day's. I'm taking a test tomorrow. If I have been spotting, why hasn't my period started or could spotting be considered a period? Has this happened to you? Any advice would be great!

thaat happened to me couple months back, it was just a shorter period....
