  1. Who said he had to rest?  Maybe he just wanted to.  I didn't realize that the perfection somehow implied perpetual movement.

  2. He didn't HAVE to rest.  He rested for two reasons:

    1) To enjoy his completed project.  Resting at the end of a big project is the psychologically healthy thing to do.

    and

    2) For us.  He also blessed the day and hallowed it.  It was meant to be a day of communion between God and man.

  3. Where is it written he "had" to rest?

  4. That means he stopped creating.  Or desists from creating.  Not that he is tired.  Nothing new has been created in the last day.  We are still under the last day.  The Bible never says that the last day has ended.  Paul said the last day was still in existence when he was alive.  The seventh day has lasted over 6,000 years so far.  The previous six were no shorter.  The creative days were time periods.  The Bible uses the word day to mean different things other than 24 hour periods of time.  At the end of the creation verses it states that these were the things created in the day of God's creating them.  This means a collection of days and not one day.  The terms evening and morning are referring to the beginning and end of a creative time period.  Just like sometimes we say we are in the spring of our years or the autumn of our years.  This is not to be taken literally.

  5. Rest means cessation from work.

  6. Rest means -to stop.

  7. those who can't follow your logic will demand things like "where is this written" rather than facing the logic

that's when the words of others become a security blanket and absolve one of independent thought

ahem, they'll also revel in games of semantics to evade the question

  8. Being perfect is tiresome.

  9. True, but define thy terms!

Perfection has nothing to do with getting tired, so I suggest you re-state the question if you want a good answer.

  10. Where did you learn this?

    You made it up.

    You are wrong.

Nowhere does it say that God can't rest.

    Creative of you, though.

    Still wrong, but creative.

  11. I'm not a 6-day person, but I do think the 7th day of rest is mentioned for a number of reasons.

First, the God has a personality. Even He likes to kick back and relax. He was pleased with what He had done, and now He wanted to just step back, take a breath and give His creation one long look. He found what He made to be just right.

He also wanted to show us that we are not meant to work ourselves to death.

Work, but enjoy the fruits of your labor.

    See?

  12. It doesn't mean rest in the sense of relief from fatigue; it means rest in the sense of to stop or to cease. God stopped creating. That's supported by what we observe in nature- that matter can neither be created or destroyed. There is no new creating taking place. Science affirms the Bible.

  13. Jehovah never stops working. (Psalm 92:4; John 5:17) His rest, then, must simply refer to the ceasing of his work of physical creation respecting the earth. His work of bringing his purposes to fulfillment, however, has continued uninterrupted. Such work has included the inspiration of the Holy Scriptures.

  14. LOL - He didn't "rest" because He was tired! He "rested" to set an example for the human race to follow. He wants us all to set aside the Sabbath as a day of rest from work, and to have fellowship with Him.
