Question:

6 month old sleeping on his stomach?

My 6 month old, who has recently begun to move by rolling and wriggling across the floor (no official crawling yet), has taken up the habit of sleeping on his stomach at night. I'm not sure if this is safe or that it can even be prevented. He uses a blanket that he likes to hold so it can sometimes find itself up near his face. He's been fine so far, but should I be worried about this?

  1. my daughter slept on her tummy..she was fine :) just make sure he doesnt have any stuffed toys that could cover his face :)

  2. It doesn't matter how they sleep, all that stuff about how its bad is myth. We sleep on are stomach's all the time so babies should to. Have you ever tried sleeping on your back, its very uncomfortable and hard to get to sleep. I slept on my stomach as a baby and I'm fine. Sleeping on your stomach just feels more natural and there's nothing wrong with it. I guarantee that nothing bad will happen from letting him sleep on his stomach.

  3. I'm not a parent so feel free to dismiss this or anybody else that's cutting class to be on here, but all I've ever heard is to put kids on their backs with nothing in the crib.

  4. Can he roll over on his own?  If so, it's fine.

  5. I wouldn't be too worried but just be a little more aware of him sleeping.

  6. doctors say sleeping on their stomach causes sids, but i would just ask a doctor,

    good luck

  7. No you shouldn't. If he can roll over and wants to sleep on his stomach, short of staying up all night and rolling him back onto his back, there's nothing you can do. My daughter is 5 months and has been rolling onto her belly to sleep since she was 4 months. I tried turning her back over every time I found her on her belly, but it just resulted in a lack of sleep for both of us. She also falls asleep with a blanket, but I take it off of her before I go to bed at night so I don't have that worry.

  8. no...its actually beter because on his back he can roll around but on his stomach he is still ... and babies have to train to be sleeping on there stomach. dnt worry about it. =] good luck and best wishes with ur 6 month old!!

  9. no there are alot of babies that like to sleep like that i know my grandson sleeps though the night when he sleeps on his stomach but when his mom turns him over to sleep on his side or on his back he wakes up every hour or 30 minutes. but the blanket i would let him sleep with it but take it away when you think he is sound asleep because that could be dangerous. Good Luck

  10. If your little one is able to hold his head up, roll on his own, and otherwise perform purposeful movement then you have nothing to worry about.  In fact, spending time on his tummy will help stretch out his muscles, and is critical for developing the muscle strength needed to begin crawling.  As for the blanket, my son has slept with his little blankie since he was about 5 months, and he has been more than capable of moving it and taking it away from his face if it is irritating him.

  11. My doctor told me to lay the baby on their back, and if they move they move. You can not stand their all the time and keep flipping them over. I understand your concern. My 4 month old like to turn on her side to sleep now.

  12. Its normal its actually more safer i heard this one story about a baby who actually drowned in her vomit laying stomach up......

  13. Yes you should be concerned!  It is not safe for the baby to sleep on his stomach nor is it safe to have the blanket in his crib.  You might try to by one of those sleeping partners from like target or wal-mart that has the positioning things on it.  It does not let him move onto his tummy and it gives them a sense of security as well because there is something on both sides of him.

  14. its fine as long as his head is to the side and not face down and maybe check on him a couple times...and try your absolute best to keep things ( like the blanket) away from his mouth to prevent suffocation.

  15. By the time a baby can roll over, you can't keep him from sleeping on his stomach if that's what he wants to do. So let him sleep on his stomach.

  16. He's fine. He is rolling over and moving around. DO NOT LOSE SLEEP OVER THIS!

  17. I'd ask the doctor but if he gets there on his own there isn't much you can do about it. When I was a baby the doctors recommended that I sleep on my stomach all the time, the do new studies and change it but many babies have slept on their stomachs and been ok. You could try one of those cushions you buy for infants that keep them propped on their sides but he's probably strong enough now that he'd just wriggle out of that. If his neck muscles are developed enough, he doesn't have the risk of suffocating like they fear with infants. It sounds like he is developing quickly and is probably safe at night.

  18. i dont think that is very safe, just put pilows next to him when he is on his back so he cant roll over

  19. HE WILL BE FINE...
