Question:

6 weeks maternity leave?

Okay I've been working at the same law office for over a year and a half and I'm pregnant. The thing is my boss just got pregnant with twins and will be leaving in December for maternity leave, this is her second one and word around the office is that people are upset she's leaving again which I think is stupid but anyway, I'm nervous about telling them about my maternity leave because I don't want to get fired and I'm one of the youngest workers there, 20 years old. I have insurance and everything, but they make me feel like a little kid and work is what I'm most worried about (how they will treat me) I want to keep working because I don't want me and my husband to have to lose an income plus his mother is more than happy to watch the baby (I work days he works nights) which is also good for my job.

Am I overreacting? I'm 5 weeks now, not showing at all except for bloating a little, so when should I tell them? And how exactly do I go about doing so? Thanks for any advice!

  1. i don't think you should tell them until your about 12-14 weeks when you're about to start showing besides anything can still happen now (God forbid) also if you think they will fire you i'm sure this is illegal! try to look more into your companies policy ...good luck and you're very lucky! i wish i was pregnant with a loving husband and i'm also 20 but i have a stupid boyfriend! lol

  2. There are laws that protect a mother from being fired just because she is pregnant.  I would wait until you maybe get a little further along but definatly do your research before telling them.  Look into the companies prenatal and maternity and family guidelines and look up the law.  Have a strong case of knowledge before you let them know and it should be fine. Most of all don't worry.  You have some time before you have to tell anyone so take it easy and prepare yourself. Good Luck!

  3. First of all....congrats!!  Now...relax:)  They can't fire you because you're pregnant.  That's against the law.  They can't even fire you for taking paid or unpaid maternity leave.  Continue to good job at work and enjoy this pregnancy.  Be happy and healthy!
