My 6 year old daughter sometimes has very strong body odor after being at school all day. Sometimes she even smells after I give her a bath! I've heard that this can be caused by the increased level of hormones in food today. Anyone else having this problem or know if this is normal?

  1. Maybe this is too obvious, but are you cooking with garlic or other strong spices?

The levels of hormones given to beef and dairy cattle are scary, and they do get passed on to people who eat them.

A few weeks on a vegetarian diet should convince you one way or the other.

  2. You might want to ask her doctor about taking chlorophyll tablets and this could very well do the trick along with the baths, deodorant etc.

  3. give her more water, buy deodorant, limit the amount of processed foods you feed your family, and get her to a pediatrician to rule out a medical cause.

  4. Yes!  My daughter, who is now 7, had the same problem. I was like "what the h**l?" but apparently it can occur depending on what they eat.  I figured out that if she has too much dairy, her BO can get really bad.  Some days when the weather is hot, I'll put some deodorant on her.

  5. There are no such thing as increased hormones in foods today that is simply a bunch of bullshit.  Dairy milk always has hormones in it because of where it comes from...Cows are female bovine (DUH) and naturally there is going to be a certain amount of their hormones in cows milk, that isn't anything new...dairy milk has been around for thousands of years.  Chicken and beef are pumped up with hormones to fatten them up to give more "flavor" to the meet.  There aren't enough hormone levels once the meet is cooked to cause changes in the human body.

As for your daughter's problem it could be simply early onset of puberty which isn't that "odd" or it could be she has a systemic medical problem that causes body odor.  I suggest a trip to the peditrician.

  6. If changing soaps does not to the trick, or using buble bath, doesn't work either, and it keeps up, with the smell, go see your doctor and ask him/her what can be done for this problem, because you can not curve it it will give your 6 yr.old a complex, and she may be ashamed of her body.it very well maybe the different foods, and yes it might the hormones, but I don't think so, to safe than sorry ask your doctor.

  7. Buy organic! avoid fast food at all costs! make sure the meat you cook is hormone free. try to avoid artifical flavors, colors and preservatives. have have her drink water with every meal. avoid sodas and dairy and jucie.

use deordant for now so she doesnt get teased. once you detox her body it will go away

  8. normally b.o. doesn't start until puberty. but in some cases the body matures earlier than normal and the sweat glands start producing  early. there is some talk about the hormones in the food being responsible for this, or it could just be evolution. there always has been a small part of the population that matured early and some that mature late. there is a surgical procedure that can stop the body from sweating but I wouldn't suggest it for such a young person. instead, daily or even twice daily showers with a good anti-bacterial soap and deodorant.

  9. Make sure she bathes daily and if she has baths at night have her wash under her arms and genital areas in the morning.  Have her wear a deoderant.  My daughter whom is nine has been wearing deoderant since she was about seven.  I was buying her the teen spirit, but last time we went to the store she picked out Degree Teen.  She liked the scent better and I know that Degree is a good brand.  She had aweful body odor before we started letting her wear the deoderant.  People may think she is too young, but it really helped.  Have her apply it in the morning and at night to clean underarms.

  10. My daughter is exactly the same

I looked on the internet and found forums that said it was down to her drinking no organic milk and the hormones in them

Didn't work so I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and she asked if she ate lots of onions and garlic... I have to say we do, she eats lots of raw onions and I cook with lots of garlic

She said don't let her have either for a month to see if it is that

2 weeks down the line my normally pungent daughter has stopped smelling.

I was bathing twice a day before and using deodorant on her which couldnt be a good thing

fingers crossed the onions and garlic where the reason and not something hormonal!!

    x*x

  11. Limit The Proccessed Foods, Give her more water instead of the sugary stuff, and buy her some deodarant.

  12. It's true that puberty can attack at a young age.  Check for hair growth to confirm.

Puberty could have nothing to do with it though.  Some people are just prone to BO.  My 9 year old has pugnant BO, beginning last year, and he has not reached puberty.  It's sporadic.  It's not every day, it's not only following humid weather or high exercise activities.  It's definitely worse in the warmer months though.  Even washing away was hard, so I know what you mean when you say you can still smell after a bath.  I tried different soaps and deodorants.  Scent-a-way soap works the best for him, and he's able to wear regular deodorant following a wash.  When he doesn't have an odor, he can wash normally with the soap, when he does he uses two different washcloths, one for each side.  A third one for the rest of the shower-washing.  It's a very contaminating odor.

Look at this link, the soap is the 6th one down.  The liquid is better because that kind of BO smell can contaminate a bar of soap, then you have to throw the bar away... Same with solid deodorants, he uses Gel.  Spray deodorant would be fine too for most people, but "spray-deodorant" and "9 year old boy" should never be used in the same sentence if you value your furniture.  It's a mistake you only make once :(

During hunting season I'm able to pick this up at Walmart but the rest of the year I have to order online.

  13. My daughter was the same way in fact I was quite shocked. I talked to our doctor about it and she said to start having her put on a swipe or two of deodorant every morning and we did  the problem was solved. She said that a girls body will start changing 3 to 4 years before puberty begins, it is a very slow process. And she was right my same daughter is now 9.5 and definitely in puberty. We  bought her the travel size secret and used it at your daughters age. By the way I do not think the teen or cheap deodorants work buy her what you use or secret is what I still buy for my daughter.

I work at an elementary school, do not let her be the stinky kid. Kids will tell her she stinks, use a little deodorant to help. I have heard early puberty comes from the hormones in food but not the BO. My doctor said it is sweat and sweat simply stinks, even some kids.

I also always have to add to these that my mother in law 72, my sister in law 55, and myself 35 all started our periods at age 9, my mother in law only ate chickens they killed themselves and farm fresh milk. Some of it can be the hormones in foods, but a lot of it is just genetic. And a lot of the milk is going hormone free now days as well.

  14. well it is also very normal for some children to hit puberty at a young age.

consult your doctor, ask if u should maybe try some deoderants on her or see if they have anything else to suggest
