6 yr old dog having accidents???

I have a 6 yr old cocker spaniel who has been potty trained for years. I just got this dog about a month ago so i do not know its past. Why would a dog that has been potty trained for years begin peeing and pooping on the carpet(only on the carpet not on the wood). She even did it with me standing right there. The dog is home all day by itself with no accidents but when I'm there to take her out she uses the carpet. I give this dog plenty of attention and take it for walks all the time. Why would she be doing this and what can I do to stop this?

  1. Have you contacted the previous owner and ask them if the dog had did the same thing when she was with them?  Could also be stress or a punishment for you on living her home all day but to know for sure what is really wrong with her after contacting the previous owner call your vet and get her checked out that would be your best answer.

  2. Maybe she has a bladder infection. Or maybe she's just stressed. Dogs often need slight retraining when they go to new homes.

  3. She is a little stressed with the new environment.  It's pretty common.  Just continue to work with her and retraining her where to go potty.  It happened to mine and my trainer said sometimes they forget especially when changes occur.  I would also take her to the vet and rule out urinary tract infection, but it just sounds like stress.

  4. I would take her to the vet, she might be sick, another thing it could be is have you had any other dogs or cats there? or just move there? New Baby? sometimes they will act our like that when theres a lot of changes that happen. As soon as she dose it, though scold her and put her right outside , and leave her out side for a half a hour or so.
