60hz laptop to 50hz tv connection?

My laptop has 60-120 hz rate but my lcd tv is 50hz. I am trying to connect them via 15-pin cable (I guess it's VGA) but all I can do is to extend my desktop picture (without any icons) onto my TV. When I try to use it as my primary monitory I get a "NO INPUT SIGNAL" message. What may be the problem? The cable is connected properly.

  1. Normally LCD TVs are capable of of handling high frequencies. The problem is somewhere in input selection of the TV or the output selection of your laptop. Go through the manuals of TV and Laptop or consult the resp. companies.

  2. It's nothing to do with the screen refresh rate.

Your laptop video output socket needs enabling.

Try pressing the keys   fn     and   F4   simultaniously.

This will toggle the computer's video through its own screen, the external screen, both screens etc.

You should expect that the screen resolution will change because of the different characteristics of the tv screen.

  3. That wont work because the TV is only 50Hz.
