  1. Excellent idea!! fruit, veggie and cheese platters, the requisite birthday cake and ice cream, and some sort of meat for the dinner or snacking purposes.

a really nice lite fruit punch and coffee and tea for drinking.

I am sure your nana will love you for this idea. I would do this at her church rec hall, but if you have a nice yard it would be nice there too. Be sure to have enough tables and chairs for all her friends to sit and visit.

  2. It's never too late!

Invite her family and closest friends.  Ask them all to bring photos and a written (or typed) story...could be funny or sentimental.  Purchase a large scrapbook and put the items into it.

You can also take some of your favorite photos, newspaper clippings and some of her life accomplishments, blow them up to poster size (Kinkos can do this at a reasonable price) and post them up as decorations.  They make for great conversation pieces for guests, too.

Balloons, cake, and speeches may be in order, too.  A barbecue would be a great casual party, where a room rented at a restaurant or community hall would be better for something more formal.  This bit depends on your budget.

Good luck with your planning!  Get those invitations out soon, though.  In the next week or two, especially if you're intending to invite out-of-town guests.
