What is the ratio of mix on a 1972 65 hp johnson motor?

  1. The mix when that motor was new was  1/2 pt to the gallon of leaded regular gas. Use 20 wt oil.


  2. Yep, it's 50 to 1. I just bought one of those about a month ago. Mine is an Evinrude though, 65HP Triumph motor.  Yours should be identical to mine except for the name. If yours has the Hydro-electric shift, be sure you use the proper gear oil in the foot. Any old gear oil won't work.

    For your six gallon gas can add one pint of oil. Either brand specific or oil that is designated for outboard engines.

    Jim: you have it mixing at approximately 16:1, that is WAY too much oil.
