  1. assuming 6% of 69.95,

    = 1.06*69.95=74.14

  2. if 6% is say the tax to add on to the $69.95 purchase, then when I do this % kind of math, I like to multiply the cost times 1.06. In one step I get the total cost (unless you are interested in the actual "tax" amount),  so  $69.95 x 1.06 = $74.15  cash registers always add to the next cent. The 1 is for the $69.95 and the .06 is the % written as a decimal. Sounds like you live in a low tax state. Chicago is 10%.

  3. $69.95 x .06 = $4.197

    $69.95 + $4.197 = $74.147

    TOTAL  = $74.15
You're reading: $69.95 + 6%=?
