  1. There is nothing wrong with a six megapixels digital SLR camera, you can still print to a4, and beyond. Here's what i get from the d40, which i've had for a few months now:http://flickr.com/photos/27145979@N02/mo... were taken with the d40, put some were taken with some of my other cameras. I've edited them, but i didn't need to sharper the quality or anything like that.you will be very happy with this camera, it barely matters that it has six megapixels. You'll love to take this camera to Dubai, the pictures you're going to get will be really nice, you don't need to spend anymore money, just get the d40, with the 18-55mm lens, it would be just fine. You don't need to get a ten megapixel camera.

I recommend you to buy nikon d40 because cheap price, good product, many users said good quality.

    Good Luck

  3. Well. You know my choice of camera Chris, but to take those kind of shots, you need a tripod, and electronic remote release, possibly an ND4 or 8 filter as well. (cheap on ebay)

If you wanted to do auto bracketed shots, for hdr processing, something that the D40 or D60 cant do, but the Pentax can, you will definitely need the tripod and remote.

For a tripod, look here http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_...

Not the best in the world, but really does the job. I got one.

  4. 6MP is more than enough for personal use. You'll be able to print quality images beyond A4 paper. What you describe is exactly what the cameras are for, beginers. You will do fine with any entry level DSLR.

Of those two cameras, I would go for the Pentax, it has Shake Reduction (Image Stabilization) built in the camera body, no need for expensive lenses. You'll get more for your money.

  5. You should be paying more attention to the optical and digital zoom.

Ok it's nice to have a high mega pixel spec, but what would be good would be something like 6x optical zoom.

What  are the figures for the computers you've listed ?

  6. I would really suggest going to the Canon XTi or the Nikon D60.  They are both about $600 and are very much an upgrade from the D40.  The reason I say this is because once you get a DSLR and start shooting like crazy, you are gonna want to update after about a month of having one hahaha.  I started with the Canon XT and it wasnt enough after about a month, so I went to the XTi because of the screen size, etc.... BUT if you don't want to go to the $600 route...at least go to the 8.1 MP Canon XT. Thanks and good luck!

  7. I've got a nikon D80 and the quality's great. but if it really will never be more than a hobby, a d40 should be fine.

  8. I agree with Nuff Said. I had a Nikon D50. My interest in photography is motorsport. Unfortunately... But the D50 served me well. I had a 50mm and a 70-300mm zoom lens (or something like that). You can pick up good used lenses from ebay. I used to print A4 with no problems. Out of the two, i would go for the Nikon as i have no experience of, and none of my friends have used a Pentax. I recently upgraded to a Canon 40D purely for the increased frames per minute rate. I now have nearly twice the megapixels, but don't seem to be taking pictures that are nearly twice as good:(
