Question:

6month old english bulldog has cherry eye?

We just got our english bulldog 4 months ago and she woke up this morning with what people call cherry eye. This puppy has a heart murmur so she cannot have surgery of any kind or she will die. She also cannot be fixed or she cannot have babies. I was looking at previous cherry eye answers on here and I don't know what to do. Today is Sunday so I can't call the vet. Anybody know what to do?

  1. Has a vet ever told you this animal can't have an anaesthetic? Or have you assumed because you've been told he has a heart murmur?

I've never heard of an animal being unable to have an anaesthetic due to a heart murmur. Especially one of this age - he's only 6 months, the heart mumur could well disappear!! The actual anaesthetic gas doesn't even interfere with the heart, it's the premedication you have to be careful with and there's plenty available for animals with dodgy hearts.

Talk to a vet. I think you'll find it's perfectly possible the pup can have an op. Certainly don't write him off just yet, 6 months old is far too young to determine "oh he can never have an op".

Anaesthetics don't kill 6 month old puppies with heart murmurs!!

  2. Call the vet tomorrow. And no dog will have babies after being fixed. Thats the point. Not all cherry eye needs surgery. Only severe. The vets can give her eye drops to make it better.

  3. Wait till tomorrow.

Our male English Bulldog had something wrong with his eye. His 3rd eyelid or something was flipped when he was about 6 months. He has to go through surgery to fix it. It wasn't cherry eye but it looked like it. Talk to your vet. I am sure he/she will be able to tell you what to do.
