  1. The answer is 4. 4x10^5 is 400,000, 10 to the 5th power is the same as 1x10^5 which is 100,000, so dividing lets you cross off the zeros, leaving 4.

  2. if you mean

    (4x10) ^ 5  / (10) ^ 5

    = (4x10  /  10 )^5 = 4*4*4*4*4 = 1024

    if you mean

    4x(10)^5 / (10)^5

    = 4

  3. 10 to 5th power council so you get 4

  4. 4x10=40^5=40x40x40x40x40= a big number/10=a smaller number^5=a bigger number

  5. 10 to the 5th powers cancel out

    so the answer is 4,

  6. Written numerically.. this is your question, right?

    (4*10^5) / (10^5)

Both 10^5 cancel because 10^5 divided by 10^5 is equal to one. Therefore 4*1 = 4

  7. This is what your problem will look like:

    (4 * (10^5)) / (10^5)

    And this is the answer:

    4

To first explain, a "power" pretty much means that you multiply the base number with itself that many times...for example 10 to the 5th power = 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x10.

If the problem looks hard, first realize that you're dealing with 3 numbers, 2 of which are the same; do you see that you have two "10 to the 5th powers" ?

If you were to replace the numbers with letters, it would look like this:

    (A x B) / B

Because one of  the numbers in the numerator (above the line) is the same as the number in the denominator (below the line), they cancel each other out. It also works if numbers are factors. For instance, if you had:

    (7 x 15)/ 5 ---> 7 x 3

because 5 goes into 15 three times.

** Hopefully this helped and didn't confuse you even more!
