  1. -2d+18-4d=60

    -2d - 4d = 60 - 18 (subtract 18 from both sides)

    -6d = 42 (combine like terms)

    d = 42/(-6) (divide both sides by -6 to get d on its own)

    d = -7

    You were right!  Well done!

  2. First congrats on trying!

    OK -- let's go.

    your first step will be to combine your variables (d)

    We'll write the equation a bit differently to make that easier to see.

    -2d + 18 + (-4d) = 60

    Now, add the variables.

    -6d + 18 = 60

    The next step is to isolate the variable. Remember, if you do something to one side of the equal sign, you must do the same to the other.

    -6d + 18 - 18 = 60 - 18

    -6d = 42

    Now, we have to get the variable alone. So, divide each side by -6

    -6d/-6 = 42/-6

    d = -7

    See! You were right! Congrats!

  3. -2d+18-4d=60   (simplify)

    -6d+18=60       (-18)

    -6d=42            (/6)

    -d = 7

    d= -7

    Correct =)

  4. you want to get your variable on the same side. so to do it in this problem you would first subtract 18 from 60.

    now you have -2d-4d=42. all you have to do in this step is simplify your variable. you should get -6.

    your equation now is -6d=42. to isolate the variable, divide by -6.

    you'll get d=-7.

    good job, see you're fine.

  5. Its been a while, but how you can check yourself, since d=-7, put -7 where d would go, and then do the math.

    The other people are right on how to work it out, I just had to add my part to it.

  6. 1. combine like terms (-2d and -4d) which equals -6d

    2.  subtract 18 from 60

    3.  now you have 42, divide it by -6

    4.  You are right, it's -7         =)

  7. First, you need to combine like terms.

    -2d and -4d can combine to be -6d

    So the problem reads: -6d+18=60

    Now take care of the numbers without letter. Get rid of the 18 by subtracting the 18 on both sides.

    So the problem reads like -6d=42

    Divide the -6 by 42 and you get -7. So you're right! :]
