6th grade volleyball tryouts-help!?

'm in sixth grade and this year our school didn't play in the fall v-ball leauge, instead we're doing spring leauge... I love volleyball, I'm not an experienced player but I'm pretty good already. I can catch up with skill fast-I'm SUPER athletic..I'm just worried because I'm 11 and only 4 foot 10 in, and I know almost all of the girls at the tryouts will be way taller and able to jump high enough to spike, plus they'll be more experienced. But my social studies teacher is the coach (Ms. B) and I really want to at least try. I have no idea what we'll be doing for tryouts, help! What should I work on? I have a homemade net and a brother who is willing to practice, but practice what? Anyway I can increase height or vertical jump? I excercise everyday...Also, what to wear and where to get gear???

PLEASE HELP!

  1. ok casey t ur wrong setter plays front row front role=height labero is back row passing if ur short u go there

  2. I'm 4 foot 11 in to i know what its like because i always play volleyball.i would wear a t-shirt...something that fits well.

  3. I am also very short (although i am in 9th grade) and i can not jump very high (but i have practiced and i am a pretty good hitter) but if you are worried that your height will get in the way tryout for a setter (and if you have one a libaro) so practice hard on setting and passing. also a coach will take someone of any height if they have the basic skills so serving is also very important if you are a good server the coach will want you on their team. what to wear i would suggest spandex (although i am not a big man of it, it is comfortable and helps you play better) if you can not have that get good athletic shorts (my favorite athletic shorts are joggers/runners shorts) also good kneepads that will stay up and are comfortable and safe. and if you want you may want to get swipe socks these are special volleyball socks that you wipe your feet on when playing to keep good traction if your local sports store does not understand what a swipe sock is (mine didnt) then find long volleyball socks (they are the same thing pretty much)

good luck, play hard, have fun

  4. well, when i tried out last year i was SO scared, because being in such a small town, they hadn't really done anything with volleyball, except for the school teams. so, many of the girls knew nothing about it. the only ones that get picked know at least a little about it. so, here's some thing that you need to be at least semi-able to do before tryouts,

ok, able to bump, and set. hopefully, you should know what those are! most team coaches look for a good server, since you seem kinda short, no offense or anything, because i am SHORT too! try underhand serving!

you should also want to have quick feet, be able to move a lot. practice helps a lot!

also, some extra things you might want to work on, being able to work as a team, and having a good attitude! =)

hope this helps and good luck on your tryouts!!

what to wear? just have knee-pads, and you can wear shorts and a shirt. anything you can play well in!

  5. be a setter you get to play all the time and you don't have to be tall
