Question:

6x9s withs an amp or 8" sub with an amp?

i was wondering should i buy after market 6x9 speakers and get an amp hooked up to it or should i get an 8" sub put between the stock 6x9s in the back dash and hook it up to an amp?

Tryin to use less money as poosible

  1. I'd hook up the 6x9's, if they;re good ones, you wont need the sub. They produce really good bass, and if they're the three levels, they produce really good mids and highs, too, Though you might as well get some tweeters, too.


  2. i like the idea of the 8" but the bass from it will drown out the 6x9s unless they have a very high sensitivity or an amp on them, plus the 8" sub you will need will also have to be free-air capable

    Free-air subwoofers

    A free-air system consists of woofers mounted to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk of the car acts as an enclosure which houses the subwoofer and isolates sound from the back of the speaker, solving the sound cancellation problem of subs without an enclosure. Free-air systems save space and have flat frequency response.

    IMPORTANT

    The woofer must be specifically designed for free-air use. The lack of a box makes them more convenient to install, but their power handling levels are usually much lower than their boxed counterparts.
