My son is turning 6 in March and we are haveing a YMCA gym party for him (he's thrilled!) and I really don't know what presents are out there to get him. I was hopeing other parents might know what gifts went over well, and what ones they should've skipped on. Thanks a bunch!

  1. Get him toys like Legos or toy cars.

  2. Try a Leap Frog Leapster.  My kids loved them.  A video type learning game.

  3. We got my son a robot (that he got to put together so it taught him mechanics and allowed us to spend quality time with him building it), a scooter, a bike and a few remote controlled cars (a monster truck, a race car and a power boat for the pond in our backyard).  You could also look into skates or anything else that will keep him active.  We bought him the Eyeclops Bionic Eye which he loved.  And a pirate ship with all kinds of pieces to play with.  At the dollar store, they have a plastic mat with a road-way and stores on it kids can use to drive their Hotwheels on.  He loved that.

  4. My son is 5 1/2 and is into Transformers, Power Rangers and Pokemon.  He also loves Lego Bionicles.  If your son likes video games, get him a Leapfrog Leapster LMAX....they're all educational games with familiar characters (Spiderman, Cars, Batman, etc).  The LMAX is handheld but can be plugged into the TV.

  5. Six, does he have a 20 inch big bike

For a six year old March birthday, I would suggest out side toys

    Soccor goal and ball

    Baseball set

    Basket ball and hoop

    Inline Skates

    What does you son like?

  6. What does he like? If he likes science, get him a nature kit, or a book about bugs, planets, plants. If he likes to build things, get him Legos or some other building kit. Encourage him in whatever his interests are. Stay away from video games. If he likes art get him painting, or drawing kits, or clay or other art materials. Get him a pass to the museum or zoo.

  7. you cant go wrong with a gift card to a toystore. What does he like to play with? you can get him that.

  8. My son will be 6 in April, and the best thing we ever got him was a computer.  This may seem like an awfully big gift for a 6 year old, but the Internet really opens up a new world for little learners.  There are so many educational websites with games and activities for little guys.  The cartoon networks have really cool things for them to do.  At nearly 6, my son still plays on the Noggin website.

Another cool thing about a computer is that when they have a question about the world, and you have no way to show or explain it to them immediately, you can take them to the computer and look it up.  This is a really awesome way to look at the world or the solar system or stars.

You can also buy educational computer games that help them read and do math, etc.  As cheesy as they seem, my son, the king of commercial toys, just loves them and loves to learn.

So, buying a computer satisfies his wanting video games and your hope to help him grow and learn.  :)

(I'm avoiding video games as well, although I may look to see what types of educational games are available for the portable handhelds.  Oooh, which reminds me, also check out the leapster handhelds.  My son learned a lot from those as well.  We home school and use anything we can get our hands on, haha!)

  9. i am going to give you a url to a really nice gift that probably a 6 year old would LOVE!!!!!!!

    http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp...

    it is only 100

  10. My kids just got Hyper Dash and they love it! It's kind of hard to explain, but check it out on Amazon.com  If he likes to run around and you like educational games - this one is a winner.  (Can be played alone or with a group of people.  Can be played indoors or outside).  We also have Hyper-slide which is fun but doesn't involve running around.  You play it on a table.  You can't go wrong with either one.
