7.1 surround sound help?

on my onkyo 7.1 receiver their is a distance setup on the menu i was wondering if you lower the distance from (30 ft) to (15 ft) or lower will it be louder or what ,my question is what does the distance button do i don't notice any diffrence when i change.and my speakers are hung on the wall

  1. The distance setting will not change the volume whatsoever. The distance setting only changes the delay time at which the signal is sent out to the amplifier form the preamp.  This allows the receiver to time the signals properly, so the sound waves arrive at your ear when they are supposed to. If your time setting are not set correctly your surround sound may not sound quite right. Sounds may not seem as though they are coming at the right time. But your volume is not effected.

    The distance should be set as the distance from your listening position to the speakers.


  2. The transmission frequency from your central device to the distant devise will be high when you choose distant otherwise the clarity of the distant speaker will be low.
