My daughter is 7.5 months old. she has had teeth since 3.5 months.. she has four teeth, with what seems like at least 4 other teeth coming in at this moment. However, feeding as become a total nightmare. she will eat for about 5 mintues tops and then start to bite, i tell her no and take her off the breast, then two seconds later she acts like she is hungry and starts to bite me again. I've tried tapping her mouth and saying no with a stern voice but she just looks at me and does it again. Plus, she is pinching so hard no, she will grab a hand full of breast while she is on the breast and start pinching really hard and pulling my breast. I am a HUGE advocate on breastfeeding, so weaning is just not an option. Our night feedings were the best right before bed, it would relax me and my duaghter to sit there and rock her while feeding her, and singing.. everything.. now i cringe everytime it is feeding time. She is also making my breast very tender because she is biting and pulling and tugging on them. She will be sucking, then push on the breast at the same time and pull my nipple in her mouth to stretch out my b*****s.. HELP!!

  1. Wow.  Sorry friend.  I didn't breastfeed, tried but it didn't work for my kids.  Talk to your pediatrician, he may have some suggestions.  I dont know.  Good luck!

  2. Pump your milk in a bottle, and get that baby off your breast so much, before you have to have some kind of reconstructive surgery on them. Seriously, you dont want to feel that way toward your baby, and dont tap her mouth!

  3. They should have a Breast Feeding Hotline or a Breast Feeding Specialist somewhere in your area.  You can call your OBGYN and she should be able to set you up with someone who can help you.

My daughter did this also.  I went and saw a lady who showed me what I was doing wrong.  I was doing everything right up to this point and then my positioning and everything needed to change to solve this problem.

She was excellent, gave me alot helpful tips, one on one attention and fixed my problem literally in a matter of a half an hour...LOL

She was a specialist through my hospital where my daughter was born.  My OBGYN fixed me up with her.

Sorry, dont have any other advice for you.

Good luck, I commend you...you are doing a great job on keeping  your sanity and sticking to  your guns!!

  4. I do know what that is like.  It is hard until you realize why she is doing it.  First I would try to numb  her gums before the feeding so she will not try to use you as a chew toy. Next is try to get you milk to let down before you feed her. either by hand expressing it until you feel it let down or use a pump or a hand held pump.  It sounds like she is pulling on your nipple and squeezing your breast to get more milk out or trying to make it come out faster.  I would try to stay relaxed and maybe put some warm compresses on your breast right before the feeding to help the milk to maybe come out faster.

As for the biting.  hopefully numbing the gums will help but if it does not or you forgot to do it and she bites you, what I did with my kids is if they bit me I would take them off the breast and say no bite and make them sit next to me for a couple of min to five min. sometimes they cried the whole time but that made them realize that biting will not get them milk.  If they bit after that then I would take them off and make them wait until the next feeding.

As for the nipple pain that you are experiencing she maybe digging her teeth into your nipple while sucking.  My son does this sometimes and it does hurt.  What I would do is try to fix the latch and hopefully get him to latch where he was not digging his teeth in to me. One time it was so bad that I pumped the breast that was the worst and fed from the other one until the one side felt better which was maybe a day or two.  Then I would do the same for the other one to heal.  That would at least let your nipples heal some.  It doesn't last forever it does get better just for some reason when they are teething they really do a lot of pain to your nipples but if you try what I mentioned it should help some.

    Good Luck!!
