7 days out till the Olypmics - are the Chinese Government giving you a positive image of themselves to you?

I personally think that the Chinese Government is doing themselves no favours. Overseas Journalists wont be able to access certain sites or subjects on the internet - i.e. on Tibet or Amnesty International?

They are also preventing Journalists reporting on the clean up after the earthquakes and they are certainly being actively prevented from talking about the school children killed.

I think China has had a great opportunity to show the world who they are, let us learn a little of their culture etc.

What do you think? Please dont accuse me of being racist - I am not - it was not my decision to hold the olympics there.

The westerner are jealousy that China can be the host country of the Olympic game coz in the past , the host country was always Europe or America, or the western world. So they did everything to ruin the image and reputation of China. About that Tibet riot, my friend actually was there at the time. The truth was China keeps helping these ungrateful Tibetian, helping them to built a trans-highway for 10 years, costing a lot of money and time, giving each citizen there a certain amount of money annually to survive. They are so poor there even if they become independent they can't survive. For years and years and years the Chinese gov't has been sponsoring them and they didn't kill any of them. It's them who struck bricks and stones to the military police vehicles. It's the same story like Britain and North Ireland. For over 30 decades the North Ireland wanted independence thus there's IRA which put bombs everything in Britain and cost many lives. It sounds like the British people are the victims of the IRA bombing. When it came to China and Tibet, Tibet became the victim while China has been helping them in all aspects for years. Britain never helped North Ireland financially or anything.

I am sick of people talking about animal right, treat animal properly, the hunting of whale is inhuman in Japan.Yes, maybe somewhere in China they eat dogs and cats but the European are the worst. Don't forget over a century ago , how they sailed over Africa, killed many natives, took their land, colonized them and made them slaves. They are no better when they even killed their own follow human beings instead of animals. In China's 5000 years' history , they never went over other country , killed and took people's land or colonized it. They had many civil war or the difference in political opinion thus there is Taiwan but that's just between their own races. I think they are better than the hyprocritic westerner who talk about animal right all the time while starting war to kill their own kind on the other side.

My opinion of modern China had been improving until just recently when China began to law down the rules for the Olympics!  While I realize that crowd control and safety is a primary concern, they have stripped the games of the spirit of fun.

China hasn't changed at all.  It's just making an awkward attempt at being "normal."

World !.......Yes they have.......and why does everyone

keep knocking at the same door expecting different ?

The people that gave them the Olympics i hope they

have had very bad sleep and continue to do so.

These countries may be racing to want what the Westerners

have had for ages....but when it comes to human

behaviour ....they have a long way to go...together with

the Japanese (in whaling for instanse)  These kind of

Bricks never change their cement compound !

We know China is a blatant human rights violator and they censor what their citizens can see and hear as well as what foreigners can learn about China.  The IOC was naive in thinking that giving China the games would encourage more openness and improvements in human rights.

I think it was the IOC who messed up. It must have been pretty obvious China was going to renege on their promises ecause the things they siad goes against their Communist Culture.

China messed up as well. China semmed strong and united after the earthquake but Tibet spoiled it. China needs to improve its image and it seems it has spent more time making the Olympics impressive then actually making itself seem honest and not breaking promises it made and actually improving human rights, even though it could have eroded some of their trouble.

China just messed up a great chance to improve its international image and after this fiasco, it will probably never hold another Olympics again.
