  1. The size of your board has more to do with your ability level and the kinds of waves you'll be surfing.

    7' isn't a kid's longboard.

  2. Yes it should be fine for a beginner as long as you don't weigh a lot. There are a lot of board shapers out there.  Just look it up the name on the internet.

  3. It doesn't matter if that surfboard you have looks like a LONGBOARD. The best way to learn how to surf fast and easy is by trying to surf first with a longboard and then trying other boards like the one you have right now. I am not telling you what board to use but if you have already surf before or never done it in your life you will still be able to surf that board you have, as long as you are smaller in size and according to your weight. If you have less weight over your board it would be much better when trying standing on it, like in the case of longboards because they will stay afloat better than smaller boards which tend to sink and will then become harder when paddling, standing, and also a little bit more difficult to ride. If you have never surf before you should start using the bigest board you can, minimum 9'feets so you start getting the hand of it. Then if you have already done some surfing before, you could try using that board you have right now, but I not ensure you, that you will be able to stand on it, IF you want to use that board the only thing you would have to do is : TRY A LITTLE BIT HARDER. Just try it at the beach when the surf is good, like 3-5ft waves and no RIP currents, and it would be perfect if your feets touch the sand so that you would be able to stand in case of  wipeouts, not so shalow, but not too deep. AND BE SURE A SIGNS SAYS (NO SHARKS TODAY).......

I am telling this to you because I started learning surfing with a board that was 6'3'' I was able to stand on it some times but not enough so that I will have some fun. AS SOON as I bought my first longboard, the first day I tryed it, I stood on it. As I keept going to the beach I was having more fun than ever. Now that I am seeing the way it works I am starting to bring more often my shortboard to the beach to improve my skills when riding it.......If you want to have fun I suggest you to buy a longboard, and if you want to go with the sport a little farther then I may tell you to use your board and practice it a lot....AND REMEMBER, NEVER STOP TRAYING, AND YOU WILL SEE THE RESULTS AND NEVER GET UPSET...bye PLEASE add this as your best answer....bye...
