  1. 7) In America and places where these places are well managed, the impact has been small. Indeed, you'll find that the quality of life for animals and plants in these areas has been steadily improving over the last two or three decades.

    8) We are part of the environment, so of course we have some impact. Again, you'll find that we have been reducing our impact (in first world countries) in the last few decades. There are more tree in America than at any other time in history or prehistory, for example. Animals populations are being removed from the endangered species lists. There is work to do still, but the trend is moving up.  I think at this point in history, human society is a definite positive. 25-30 years ago it was a negative.  I speak of America and Europe here. Go to China or India and its a negative to this day. They need to work hard to improve.

  2. 7) The growing human population needs greater land for living and plant food crops. In Indonesia for example, some villagers have to clear more land - meaning forests- to build cultivation gardens or plantations. This causes habitat loss for wildlife, from large mammals, to reptiles, birds, which in turn leads to conflict between animals and humans. This is a major issue in Sumatra, with elephants raiding crops in surrounding villages.

But locals are not the only ones at fault. What's doing more damage are timber companies. Growing population means greater demand for timber, and these companies causes a lot of damage.

You asked about wildlife in protected areas, and yes, these cases happen even in protected areas.

    8) I think humans have a much too anthropocentric effect on the environment. Humans have had a negative effect in the way that we're using up the natural resources at a such a fast rate and speeding up wildlife extinction. On the other hand, we do try to undo that mistake through conservation efforts. There are some dedicated people working in conservation. However, that effect would be much greater if everyone would join in.

Sorry this is so long. Hope it helps!
