  1. go ahead start feeding him number 2's  some places have those cookies that he can chew on just watch him on it because the first couple of times h**l try swallowing it all (I know my little girl tried to)

then when He gets used to the number 2 foods and can eat and swallow just fine switch to number 3 foods that way ill be able to eat big kid food sooner that you had imagined just try it IT WILL WORK PROMISE

  2. If he has been through all the veggies and fruits go for the stage 2 the only thing I noticed was that they combine a lot of things. The texture is about the same. You will get a lor of bad answers about feeding him from the table dont listen. They have a lot of time to eat all that unhealthy stuff full of salt and chemicals.

  3. Contrary to what the second poster thinks, it's perfectly fine to feed baby from the table, assuming you are eating healthy, whole foods.

Yeah, if you're eating kraft mac and cheese or hamburger helper every night, probably not the best thing to feed baby.  But, if you're preparing fresh veggies, good meat, whole grains, etc., it's fine to feed baby from the table.  I don't know where the second poster got the idea that everyone cooks out of a box - we don't here.  Anyway.

Cut the food up into small pieces and let Baby self-feed.  If it's a harder vegetable, you may want to cook it just a little longer for Baby.  Babies use their gums to mash food, and self-feeders are actually LESS likely to choke than babies eating purees - the reason is purees are too similar to breastmilk/formula in texture, so, babies often try to suck the purees down - and that leads to choking.  Table food is a "real" texture, and babies learn to use their tongues and gums to manipulate the food around their mouths.  Babies are very good at regulating their food intake, and will eat as much or as little as they need if they are presented with the opportunity.

Stage 1s are usually single ingredient (ie...carrots and water), but, stage 2s and up usually have a LOT of fillers, so, you may want to check labels if you're going to go that route.

Good choices for foods for your son right now are really varied.  Some of my DD's favorites at that age were tender chicken (my DD LOVED roast chicken - the dark meat has lots of iron/protein), avocados, real oatmeal (still a fave), just about any fruit you put in front of her, but especially berries, green beans and corn, and scrambled egg yolks.  But, if you're a family that eats a lot of, say, potatoes, try giving him a bit of yours.  You might have a kid who loves couscous - you'll find out soon enough.  Watch for reactions, but don't stress too much.  It's a fun time ;-)

  4. Stage 2 foods are for 6 months and up.  I give my daughter puffs that melt in their mouths.  You can find them in canisters by the baby food.
