My daughter is almost 7 months old(she will be 7 months on thursday), and she has a cold, she has a cough, and shes got a runny nose, her snot is greenish, but she doesnt really have a fever, is there anything i can do to help her? I know she is too young to have OTC meds, and probably prescription meds as well.... is there anything i can do at home to help the cough? i pretty much know how to help the runny nose but i dont know what to do about the cough.

  1. go to the doctor and make sure she has enough food and proper breast milk

  2. It seems like my son gets this every couple of months (he's 8 months). We set up a humidifier and apply a lot of Vapo Rub. They make a special Vapo rub for babies. My doc said to apply it to their feet and put socks on.

  3. I just went through this with my son who will be 7 months this week.  He had all the same symptoms.  Use a humidifier in her room to help break it up.  My son even had a little green.  It cleared up.  Give her a chance to fight it before giving antibiotics.  THis will help her body learn to fight.  If her nose gets stuffed, use saline nose spray.  We got the set with a nasal aspirator called Little Noses I think.  My son hates when we use it, so we just use the drops.  IT helps tremendously.

  4. She could be teething. A lot of babies get sick when they're about to get their teeth. For what reason, I have no idea!

Your baby would be old enough for prescription meds. My doctor prescribed Amoxicillan I believe when my son had a cold. He also had a swollen throat though. The doctor probably won't give you anything for just the cold.

Try Saline nasal spray and a nasal aspirator. Those are your best bets! When my son had a cold, that's what my doctor told me to do. But of course, you should check with your ped.

    good luck!

  5. my mom works at a doc's office and my 8 month old was just sick..she didnt have green snot though. it was clear, the doc said if its green they will need an antibiotic to get rid of it.  i hope baby feels better soon.

  6. I would call your pediatrician about this cold. Since her snot is green, thats a sign of an infection and will need an antibiotic.

My daughter just recently got over a cold. What I did for her was, used a vaporizor and used Vicks baby rub on her. Sucktioned her nose out also. Theres really not much you can do for a baby with a cold since all the OTC meds were recalled for parents accidently overdosing their kids. Also, if you start a hot shower and close the doors to the bathroom, just have you and the baby sit in there(on the toilet or floor) and stay in there for a good 15-20 minutes. That helps bring up stuff. I would use those remedies untill the doctor can see her. Hope that helps.

  7. Coughs are a drag and they can get really bad and interrupt sleep. Bringing her into the bathroom and turning on the shower as hot as you can and closing the bathroom door and just sitting in the bathroom with the shower on (getting the room steamed up) for about 15 minutes a couple of times a day (especially before bad and perhaps in the middle of the night if needed) can help loosen up the cough. Raising her crib mattress so she doesn't sleep flat on her back can help a little or even have her sleep in a car seat if you need to. Over the counter cough medicines are pretty useless but, believe it or not, my daughter used to get dreadful coughs and i tried everything and Vicks Vapor Rub may have helped a little. I used to rub it on her chest after she fell asleep. I think just inhaling the vapor helps the cough a little. Look out for ear infection signs. An ear infection can be really painful and sometimes comes with a fever but not necessarily. If she awakens a lot in the night and acts like she's in pain (besides from the discomfort of the cough) or pulls at her ears or refuses to drink from a bottle -- those could all be signs of an ear infection. Good luck. I'm sure she'll be better soon.
