i have three foster children and two of my own children to transport, i need a seven seater. the alternative is to run two vehicles every time we need to go out, so how would that sit with the polution police. why target families that carry seven people in one vehicle, surely that is more eco friendly. i may as well say, to h**l with the invironment, and use two cars.

  1. When ministers come up with these ideas of green taxes etc. they don't think it through properly and consider the needs of why some people need these types of vehicles. I agree 100% with what you say and it makes common sense which none of the govermental ministers have it seems. They like the idea of you having two cars instead of one, because they will obviously gain more tax from unnecessary fuel consumption. The issue of green tax is just a lame excuse to create more revenue .

  2. Transporting 7 people in one vehicle is more economic and more environmentally friendly than two vehicles.  Just do the calculation of "miles per gallon per person," and you'll see that a 7 passenger van will probably perform best from a mileage standpoint.

Yet at the same time, this argument is only valid if you're running your 7 passenger vehicle FULL.  If it's rarely filled with people, you'll do better with two vehicles as you state from a mileage perspective.  You can do a "miles per gallon per average person" using the average number of people in each vehicle is determine which will give you the best economic and environmental impact.

In the end, it really is up to you.  If you decide to buy two Hummers, there isn't anything anyone can do to prevent it.  I think it'd be an expensive and more polluting choice that other options, but it's not up to me.   People will judge us no matter what choices we make.

  3. If it is a diesel vehicle, you may be able to run it on veg oil, which is legal as long as you inform the tax people, and pay them accordingly.

there is a big tax break on veg oil, i am running on 52p a litre after tax atm.

have a look at this site

  4. I'd be very surprised if the tax difference actually means that two smaller cars work out cheaper than one 7-seater. Two lots of maintainance, two lots of insurance, more fuel used, two lots of car park charges, etc.

Is it worth looking at getting a minibus instead? Tax on those has not gone up, and being able to carry your kids' friends as well as them could come in handy.

  5. I agree with you larger family's have to use one, it is not possible to walk long distance with young children, so they should make allowances, and i think its great you foster, well done you and your family,

  6. It only makes sense to have a car to transpot as many people as you "have" to transport.  Two cars would be twice the pollution, twice the gasoline, twice the amount of cars manufactured!!!  Actually, I wish everyone would get back to the concept of the "family" car.  We couldt cut back on a lot of waste and pollution if we shared the vehicle!?

  7. I totally agree with you the high road tax should hit people with 4x4's that dont even need them. i myself have to pay a high road tax i dont have a big car but it's obviously not very green but thats personal choice for you it's essential

  8. Walk instead

  9. The "Greenies" are part of a movement which actually opposes large families and wants abortions and zero population growth.   They look upon large families in the same way as they view large vehicles, as being harmful to the environment. If you always drove everytime and everywhere with a full vehicle they would applaud it, but let father drive it to work and leave the family at home and he is a villain.

Two smaller cars are not cheaper than one large one. Switching to one large car for the family and a small one for Father to drive to work costs more in every way than one large all purpose car.  The "Greenies" are pushing for people to buy little electric cars, but a visit to - MeyersMotors.com - shows that to be totally impractical.  A single passenger car that can only go 30 miles and costs $36,000 is simply not an option for a large family.

Necrid - is typical of the type when he says to walk instead.  There is no consideration for their health, convenience or safety.
