my seven week old baby is bad at sleeping during the day and at night has been since the day he was born.

during the day he maybe sleeps for 5Min's at a time then wakes up.

he does drink a full bottle of milk every 3 hours and i have increased his milk to 6oz now.At night he sleeps from 9pm till 12-1am and after that it really hard to get him settled he is on a dummy but spits it out.

I'm finding it hard to keep him amused he doesn't like lying down or going in his baby bouncers even tried him in a baby swings but just seems to get bored after Min's i have to walk round the house with him all day this is quite hard as i have a 2 1/2 year Old as well well. please help.

  1. It is difficult to keep a 7-week old entertained because they don't really do a whole lot yet. They might just now be starting to discover their hands and even then, they don't really know what to do with them, other than suck on them. Plus, they still can't see very well and their field of vision may still appear in all grayscale to them, so they are not attracted to the bright colors yet. So that is why your baby seems bored with the toys.

Do you have a bedtime routine? The bedtime routine is one of the first ways that teaches baby "now is time to sleep." Give a bath, play soft music, give the last feeding of the night in the same place with the lights turned down low. Those are just a few things you can do to help establish a recognizable pattern to the baby and within a few days, the baby will likely understand "This is what happens before it is time to sleep" so that when you put him in his bassinet/crib/in bed with you, he knows that it's bedtime. One other thing - have you tried a swaddle blanket? Babies that young still jerk their arms in their sleep, which can rouse them into wakefulness.

As far as sleeping during the day, do you have the baby in a dark, quiet room? I have found this works for me - we have to recreate her bedtime conditions to get her to nap during the day. For us, that translates to swaddling her from the waist down, putting the fan in her room on high for white noise in addition to turning on a heartbeat machine. When she hears these sounds, she knows it's time to sleep.

I hope that can be of any help to you at all and I hope you find a solution soon. When babies don't get much sleep, it is very stressful and trying.

  2. i would try using rice cereal with a bath right before bed. i have the same problem with my daughter, i cant put her down with out her crying and not stopping but what i have found is if you put baby in a "snuggly" it is those carring things where baby gets strapped in on your chest or back she is perfectly fine. i dont stop my day eiather, if she wants to be held she does everything i do, laudry, dishes you name it we have done it.
