ok before i get all the critical comments form people saying give ur baby tummy time. She is on her stomic alot and we hold her upright and play with her upright all the time. It cause when she sleeps she sleeps hard and in the same position all night and when she lays in the boppy bouncer and car seat she always c***s her head the same way. Its nt bad at all i just noticed it today so it just started to happen. Is there any way of reversing this or fixing it..its not real noticable but i know its there and i have been trying to stop her from sitting on that side all day but she seems to favor the one side....

  1. My daughter had a little flat spot for a while. Her doctor said it was fine and that it'll go away as soon as she starts moving more. She learned to roll over and her head is shaped like it ought to be now. Just give it time.

  2. well just so you know a 7 week old baby doesn't change positions by themselves yet that's not for a few months but you should either try letting her sleep on her stomach but that is totally up to you and if your willing to take the risk or go to walmart and they have this thing to kinda prop babies up while they sleep and you can make it so she sleeps sideways hold on im going to get the link

  4. Yes you can fix it. What causes the flathead is laying in the same position for long periods of time. Bouncy chairs, swings and sleeping with her head in the same spot at night will cause this. When she sleeps for naps and at night, try switching which end of the crib/bassinet her head is in. My son loved the bouncy chair but I would make him switch which side of head he was on. My friends son had really bad flathead and nothing helped, so they had to get a sleep positioner which they could fix their sons' head in a certain way to help with flathead.

  5. My daughter was exactly the same!! and i did worry a bit about it so i spoke to my health visitor at the clinic and she just said a lot of babys heads to go flat from where they sleep, and also the hair thins out alot aswell. and that her head will eventually go back to being round at the back. So dont worry, and dont think its anything you did wrong. It will sort itself out :) x x

  6. a lot of babies heads get flat due to laying on their heavy heads when they are sleeping. my baby slept more on both sides of her head so her head is not flat. so try laying her on her side. if you are worried about sids, buy those sleep positioners so she won't roll over.

  7. My middle child was the same, and (don't mean to scare) hers got so bad it was affecting her face. now at three I can clearly notice it still when her hair is wet. We tried everything, but nothing worked. Moved toys to the other side of her cot, tried to sleep her on her front, propped thigs up so she couldnt turn her head, she found a way, special pillow from peads, she wouldnt sleep, moved her head constantly, she moved it back. Let her sleep on my chest during the day so I could move her head and keep her settled. People were quite judgemental too, health visitors etc. I tried to point out i had another child with a  normal shaped head and knew what I was doing, it's just nothing would work. It'll right itself eventually. Talk to your health visitor for more tips.

  8. My daughter is 5 months and the back of her head is sorta flat I asked her doctor and she said it is normal. She is never on her back except to sleep , she is always rolling around on her belly and trying to crawl. Don't worry just keep up the tummy time!

  9. It happens when they sleep on their backs from the time they are baby's. Don't worry it will never be Noticeable to the point where people will think there is something wrong, your baby will just have a slightly flat spot on the back of their head.

I know grown people that slept on their backs when they were babies and you can't notice it at all.

It's ok. I know exactly what you mean but it happens because babies heads are so soft because they aren't fully developed yet.

  10. have your baby checked for torticolis.  this is a condition where the muscles on either side of the neck are not developed equally leading to a side preference - the baby finds it more comfortable to sleep in that position so always favours it.  this is one of the most common causes of plagiocephaly (to give it its proper name - i find "baby flathead" very disturbing, mental-image-wise).

the back of my daughter's head is flat - but nobody (including the doctor) noticed until she was 8 months old, lol.

about the car seat - are you talking one of those bucket seats?  that kind that goes from car to stroller?  bin it - they're terrible.  they've been linked to increased plagiocephaly, positional asphyxiation (the baby's head drops foreward on the chest) and GERD (gastric reflux because of the hunched position the body is kept in, stomach contents are pushed up into the gastric tract).  speaking from experience, the dubious benefit of having the baby sleep when going from house to car, etc, was not worth the biceps tendonitis and strained shoulder from carrying that sucker, not to mention the stress and fear of having to lug it up and down the stairs.  the last straw was when hubby and i between us were carrying her into the mall and the handle broke.

just get a regular car seat that'll last until 80 or 100lbs.
