So it's summer break now, and I just was hired as a babysitter. I know the kids do NOT want to spend their time indoors, its summer! So what are some safe, kid-friendly things I could do so the 10 year old doesn't get bored, and the 7 year old isn't struggling to understand?

What can I do, like to keep them active and outdoors and having fun?

  2. Baseball is really good. I palyed it when i was younger and still do.

  3. Yes, I totally understand what you mean. I babysat a 8 year old and 6 year old last summer, and here are some activities that the parent left me, and some that I included:

    Biking/Scooters

Go for a ride with the kids... teach them about helmet safety, etc. etc.

    Sports

Tag, soccer, rollerblading, hide and go seek, volleyball, badminton, tennis etc...

    Chalk

    Hopscotch, etc.

    Gardening

Although it occupies only a short time everyday, have the kids plant a small flower/herb garden and look after it throughout the summer. Teaches them the basics of looking after plants and responsibility while giving them something to do!

    Picnics

Plan a picnic. Have the kids plan what kind of foods they should bring, where it will be and who will attend. Associated with this could also be some games/activities. (Group goes on a hike, plays water balloon toss, swims in the lake)

    Backyard Activities

    Sprinklers

Grab the hose or the sprinkler, your bathing suits and your set. The kids will have fun running around while cooling off in the water.

    Kiddie Pool

Inflatable kiddie pools are a good way to cool off.

    Water ballons

Buy some cheap water ballons at the dollar store, fill them up and start throwing! Limit the throwing around the face/shoulder area. Restrict it to outdoors ONLY.

    Excursions

Walk to the local farmers market/store and buy some popsicles.

Go for a walk through the park. Bring along toys (beach balls, skipping ropes,) a quilt to sit down on and snacks.

Go to the beach. (If available)

Go to the local community center and see if they offer drop in activities.

    Hope this helps!
