My husbands boy, from his ex gf, is here for the summer. He has been here for two weeks and has peed the bed every night. We got him pullups after the first week, but would like it if we could do something to make it stop or happen less often. He doesn't drink anything after 5pm and we limit what he does drink during the day but it doesn't seem to help. any suggestion?

  1. Staying dry all night is not something that anyone *learns* or that can be made to happen before the child's bladder muscles & hormonal triggers have developed to the point where it just happens naturally.

Still wetting in the night at 7yo is not all that unusual.

You can try different things to keep him dry by morning, like limiting liquids at bedtime or waking him in the night to use the bathroom, but none of those are guaranteed to work - they just guarantee an emptier bladder.

And, punishment, charts, rewards, etc - won't help his body to physically mature any faster.

So, put the pullups on to help him get through it with dignity & help you get through it with a little less laundry to do.

  2. this is common more than you think ,dont encourage limits on drinks , dont lift him before you go to bed ,no no no to pull ups , its a physcological thing the child needs to be in control of his bladder , try getting him to stand in front of the mirror and saythis three times ... i want to be dry ,im going to be dry,im the boss of my bladder. dont give fizzy drinks and no black currant juice., im not saying it works for every child but it did for mine and a friends , other than that see a eurethis doctor , one thing he says is dont make a big deal of it it will really make matters worse ,stay calm and support him its tough on him to

  3. Lots of children have this issue, my 6 year old girl does this still.  Her doctor told us that her bladder is tiny and has not caught up with her develpment yet, she should out grow it by age 10.  Does he do this at his mothers house?  It may be the change in location has thrown him off.

  4. Well, you can't just make him stop.  It's involuntary... No 7 year old wants to wet the bed.  Good move putting a halt to the water.  But there's a real possibility this isn't physical.

    - He could be still adjusting to being at a new place.

    - Or, some kids are just sound, sound sleepers.

    - "The whole summer" is a long time.  Talk to him about a week at a time.  Or even a night at a time.  Some of the anxiety will be lifted, and he might do much better.  Does he have the option to go home?  He might not even exercise that option, but just having it may alleviate some anxiety.

  5. I think he will out grow this on his own.I didnt stop till I was 10!You should speak to his Pediatrician about this. They'll tell you what you can do to stop this.

  6. wake him up and put him on the toilet as your going to bed he wont even remember it. Some children just sleep very soundly, don't make a big deal of it. I think that if you desperatley don't want something to happen 9 times out of 10 it will.

  7. I would suggest bringing him to the doctor. A lot of kids have small bladders, which a lot of times is hereditary. Don't make a huge deal about it though, it will only make him more self conscious. This is actually a somewhat common thing in younger children, especially boys. In most cases, kids cannot help it.
