My 1st grade daughter will be playing and all of a sudden have a urge to pee so bad that she barely can make it and sometimes doesn't to the bathroom. She cries because she's embarressed by it but she doesn't seem to be able to feel when she has to go until it's too late. Anyone else have this problem? Or should i just take her in? thanks!

  1. My daughter had/has the same problem.  The dr said it's just because their bladders still aren't developed fully until they are around 12 years old..  the hormones arent all in sync yet.. so they dont get the urge to pee until its too late- this is the reason why man kids wet the bed for so long!  She will grow out of it--  i know it's hard until then!  What we did with my daughter is just reminded her to try and go potty every hour or hour and a half- this drastically reduced the number of 'accidents'.

  2. she may have a weak bladder..like the urge comes on all of a sudden and it comes out.. you should speak with her pediatrician.. was it alwyas like this??

  3. I'd take a look at her diet, particularly if this is a new problem. Is she eating differently? Was there a big change in what she drinks recently?

I had a similar problem. When I was her age if I had a glass of milk before bed, I would wet the bed every time. I could have 4/5 glasses of root beer and be just fine. Turned out, I was lactose intolerant. Apparently that's a common reaction in children with food allergies.

Soda is a big trigger for a lot of kids as well. She shouldn't have soda more than once a week. If she's drinking it regularly try cutting her off completely for a few weeks to see if that fixes the problem.

Another thing it might be is a bladder infection. If it burns when she uses the bathroom, take her in to either her pediatrician or your gyno(whichever she's more comfortable with) to have it looked at.

  4. A 7 year old should feel the urge and if she can't and she sometimes pees her pants as a result of it, she should get checked by a doctor.

  5. i would say, take her to a doctor, and to stop it if you decide not to, bring her to the bathroom every once and a while and tell her to try to go to the bathroom

  6. You need to talk to a doctor and maybe just ask the teacher to make her go potty at any breaks so that she is reminded to go!♥

  7. Hi.  I would have her evaluated.  This is not a common condition that I know about.  Take her to her pediatrician first.  He/she may recommend that you take her to a urologist for further evaluation.

  8. Why take chances with her health?  Take her to the doctor....

  9. my son went through this at the same age I was worried but come to find out he was just to busy all the time and did not want to miss anything, I really think she will grow out of it.he started running alot faster to the bathroom and eventually stoped wetting his self he still at 8 will run as fast as he can and barely make it.

  10. She either has a weak Bladder- or She's ignoring the "urge to Go"- until it's too late. Both of these Problems can be treated... -Take her to a Pediatrician to find out WHICH one it IS, & which treatment to Prescribe.  :)

  11. does she wet the bed? because if she does that means there is something with her bladder because often kids with small bladders can't feel the urge to go especially while they sleep. if she is awake then you should take her to a doctor because it could be physiological (or how ever you spell it)
