  1. Do they want this themselves, or do you want it for them?  If they don't want it for themselves, then that should be the end of it.  I've seen far, far too many unhappy kids forced into the business by stage parents who are living their own dreams through their kids.  I apologize if this offends you, but like I've said, it happens much too often.  If they genuinely want it for themselves, community theatres often do shows which involve kids - it can be a great way to discover if the kids enjoy performing in a fairly non-threatening environment.  After-school drama classes are always a good idea - they channel and guide talent in the right direction.  In terms of Broadway, there are a few kids' roles - the girls in Billy Elliot, and Michael and Jane Banks in Mary Poppins.  They are always looking for kids, and usually hold open auditions - have a hunt around the internet and you should find some info.  There are also childrens' agents if you want to get them into professional work - just remember that a reputable agent will NEVER charge you anything upfront, just take a percentage of the payment for any jobs they get for your kids.
