70 H.p. nissan boat motor won't push hard enough to plain the boat!!!?

Question

my motor runs fine in nutrual and reverse. but when i put it in drive, the R.P.M.'s only go to 1100. I am also hearing a clicking noise. after i got out of the water i checked out the prop. if it is in reverse, it locke and will not turn clockwise nor counter-clockwise! in nutrual, it spins freely in either direction. But, when in drive, it locks and will not spin to the left, but will spin to the right. (there is a clicking when it spins to the right) can anyone help me figure out what is going on with this thing? as i said before, the boat won't go fast enough to pain out! heck, it won't even go fast enough to raise the nose out of the water. so the boat doesn't get a chance to plain out! i need this thing fixed fast! just trying to figure out where to start.

yes there is a problem with either the clutch or the gear box the clicking noise is down to the bearings wich is a fairly minor problem. you should dismantle the engine, clean and lubricate it and then if it still doesnt work take it to a nissan specialist and dont let them charge you more than 100 uk pounds for it otherwise you are being ripped off

gear housing.   cluch isn't engaging fully.   or shift mechanizum is not shifting propperly in gear housing.

either way...u have a lower unit problem.

pull prop shaft and look at your gears.

sorry spelling is bad. my hubby is telling me what to write and my mechanic spelling stinks..lol.  He's a marine mechanic so hopefullly this helps. good luck

Most likely: Misaligned gearshaft and or damaged bearings.

Go to "iboats.com" and go to the forum that lists Nissan motors.  These people are very helpful in solving problems with motors.  It's free to join and you should ask them these questions.  I purchased a Mercury 150hp not running and with their info and advice; got this motor to run within a few days at little or no expense.  Contact them.  Bob
