700 degree 14 yr old

Question

Hi, I am 14 years old and both of my eyes are nearsighted with around 700 degree. I spend a lot of time on the computer and don't rest my eyes when tired. Is there anything I can do to slower my eyes increasing? My eyesight always increases 100 degrees every year. I'm really scared of being blind. What can I do?

There is nothing you can do, staring at the sun and using computer are not causes.  No one ever goes blind from needing glasses.

Myopia usually stops increasing when you stop growing --- about age 16 to 20.  There are rare, genetic based high myopias that continue to progress as an adult.  If you have a parent or sibling who is -14 or more and is still progressing, you may have one of those myopias.  But there is still nothing you can do -- no vitamins, no exercises, no change in behaviour.

Hello! I'm currently sixteen and at 8.00 degree for my eyes. When I was 14 I was 7.00 and let me tell you, I had the same fear of being blind at such a young age and am still feeling it now. They're still increasing, too. I'm just like you: I'm on the computer most of the time and I never really get to sleep due to so much schoolwork.

There is no way to fix it. The only suggestions I can think of is:

1.) Use less computer so you won't strain your eyes. Have good lighting whether you watch tv or read.

2.) Try vitamins. My mom tells me to eat lots of carrots and take fish oil or something...supposedly it helps promote good eyes.

3.) Worse comes to worse, there is the option of surgery. However, there are lots of risks to it and I do not recommend this unless you are extremely desperate for it.

Some people are just born with bad vision. I mean, I was on the computer as much as my brother and he has almost perfect vision.

hi im not really sure what degree means but i recently got dream lenses and the eye person said they help slow donw ur eyes from getting worse. Maybe you should look into those. they are contacts that you sleep with and as you sleep they reshape ur eye, then u dont need them during the day! they are really cool!
