I got a phone off rogers. Unfortunately because of job loss and family circumstances I didn't pay it for a long time, it helps that I never got phone calls or notices apart from maybe one or two bills and I didn't pay attention to it. NOw they tell me they cancelled it, and charging me $400 plus the balance which equals 700$ and telling me to go deal with the collection agency.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I don't know have $700. There is absolutely no way I can get $700, and I don't want this to go on my record.

  1. You don't have much choice except to pay. Bills don't go away just because you ignore them, I'm afraid.

  2. If you have a bank account, then phone for an appointment with your bank manager. Ask her to have you meet a reliable credit adviser.

  3. Just because you don't use the phone, doesn't mean you don't get charged!  It's already on your record that the account was turned over to a collection agency.  All you can do is pay the bill!  You can't stick your head in the sand and ignore your responsibilities and expect them to just go away!

  4. Well, sorry, you are probably stuck with it if your contract included the $400 cancellation fee.  If you can't or don't pay it, it WILL go on your credit report.

  5. I don't think ignorance is a good defense here.  You will have to pay the bill.  Call the company and tell them how much you can afford and then make the payments.

If you cannot afford a service, don't sign up for it.

  6. You need to work out a payment arrangement.  It is cheaper for them to arrange payments than to deal with a collector, so they will probably go for it.

  7. first try calling the place again and tell them that your account was suspended and you should not have to pay for the charges that occuring uring this suspenion time.

also tell them the situation and perhaps they will nock off some of the fee's and only chage you for you princilple, which would be about 300 after u take out the 400.

  8. You signed a contract, used the phone, ignored the bills when they came in and now you want a way out.  You are what is wrong with most economies - you take no responsibility for your actions.  Get a job and pay your bills deadbeat.

  9. If you owe the debt, just call and set up a payment arrargment.

  10. Let's see, you didn't bother to pay the bill, ignored the one or two bills, and NOW you're worried about your credit??

Collect alum cans, sell blood, mow lawns .... or find maybe just get a job and pay the bill.  Yes, it will go on your credit report -- your earned it.
