I don't think a travel agent is very useful in these days of the internet. You can go to the Amtrak web sit and examine schedules and book tickets. That is all a travel agent will do.

i went on an Amtrak from Elyria, Ohio to Chicago

not that long of a trip right???

wrong....i took us 7.5 hours!!!!

but i was with friends so it was fun =]

just be prepaired to be delayed

A looooooooong trip.

The best bet for an extended trip such as this would be to consult with a travel agent who will develop the itinerary with Amtrak.  Of course they add charges for their services, but then again, they can usually get better deals than you could on your own, so it works out to be either a wash or you travel cheaper than you could book on your own.

The agent will be able to arrange accommodations for layovers, at your request, again at a probable discount.
