  1. 720P- Better for fast moving pictures

    1080i- Better for displaying images

That's all you need to know

  2. for me 720p its better overall because a 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan (hence the 'p')The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV.

A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the 'i'), ie every other lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.

now imagine why 1080p is so great is 1080 lines simultaneously at the same time.

After all that explanation at the end many people cant tell the difference !!!

  3. Anything over 46" get 1080i or p. Otherwise 720 is fine under 46".

  4. I understand the difference between the 2 but in my opinion 1080i is better.  If you are thinking of which type of tv to buy get a tv with 1080p with full hd.  So you will be ready for the future.  You can 't watch anything now on 1080p on tv but we will be able too in the future.  I think 1080i looks better in my opinion.

  5. Did the research and 1080i was far better in my opinion sharp crisp and clear get right up close and see the difference

  6. We get our HD signals over "rabbit ears", which only pull in the major network broadcasts.  ABC and FOX transmit in "720p" and don't look nearly as clear at NBC and CBS, which transmit in "1080i".

And David Letterman comes in a little cripser than Jay Leno, even though they're both 1080i.  We've always found CBS HD to be a little clearer than NBC HD, no matter what market we've lived in.

  7. I had to change my PS3 from 1080i to 720p because the images were blurry when playing games.  720p is better for most "fast action" viewing such as games and sports in my opinion.

  8. 720p gives a single picture at 720 scanlines

1080i gives you 2 pictures -interleaved with each other - effectively needing much more processing power but only building an overall picture of

    540 scanlines

BOTTOM LINE - IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET TO SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY,

GET A LONG AND VARIED PROGRAMME DEMO OF BOTH TYPES - CHOOSE THE ONE THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU

  9. It's difficult to predict since video processing capability varies among different devices. It really can come down to experimentation ... and in some cases people can't see any difference. Bottom line, it mainly depends on what you are watching and what resolution display you have.

Since TV is broadcast in a mix of 720p and 1080i, for HDTv, it doesn't matter which is better since you can't choose which to use (assuming you want to watch that station). If you can choose 720p is better ... particularly if there is motion.

If you are feeding a signal from a external source (e.g. upconverting DVD player that doesn't output 1080p) and have a 1080p HDTV/projector that does deinterlacing well, you are better to choose 1080i over 720p. If the HDTV doesn't do deinterlacing well you are better to feed it 720p.

Finally, if you have a "720p" HDTV/projector (i.e. one with native resolution of 1280x720 or 1366x768) you are better to feed 720p (1080i has to be deinterlaced and scaled to fit the smaller display, while 720p can be accepted directly (or only slightly scaled)).
