76th Senior National Badminton Championships: Arun Vishnu and K. Tarun grab Men’s Doubles title
India’s Arun Vishnu and K. Tarun have delivered a sensational performance as they have won the Men’s Doubles title after beating the higher ranked pair of K. T. Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas in the final showdown of 76th Senior National Badminton Championships on Wednesday, January 25, in Bangalore, India.
Arun and Tarun, who were un-seeded in the Men’s Doubles draw of the event, stunned Rupesh and Sanave who were the number five seed in the event. The lower ranked shuttlers displayed a phenomenal performance and won the match in three sets by taking 62 minutes in the court.
The opening game of this final contest was interesting as both pairs played aggressive and positive badminton. They did not show any sign of slowing down the pace of the rallies and remained close until the break in first set.
After the break, Arun and Tarun played better badminton as they dominated at the net area and managed to push their higher ranked opponents on the back foot. The attacking and positive approach of Arun and Tarun helped them to take the first set with a difference of 21-16.
In the second game, both pairs put up a tremendous show of attacking game until the one minute break. Both sides were quite close as they played positive badminton and did not execute any risky strokes.
However, after the break, Rupesh and Sanave controlled the pace by playing an aggressive game at the net. On the other hand, Arun and Tarun could not cope up with the speed and perfection of their rivals and lost the set with a margin of 16-21.
In the decider, both sides entertained the crowd by playing at their maximum speed. They played a tremendous game and reached at the concluding phase without setting up any lead. Arun and Tarun managed to create gaps and finished the rallies in an impressive manner. They took the bird early at this crucial stage and scored ending points in a dominating fashion.
The lower ranked Arun and Tarun took the deciding set with a decent 21-18 score on the board. The concluding score of this Men’s Doubles final contest was 21-16, 16-21 and 21-18.
