How is a primary source different from a secondary source?

  1. A primary source is a source from the time, like a birth certificate, letter, journal, eyewitness account, and so on.  A secondary source is written by someone who was not there, but just learned about it from the primary sources (and/ or other secondary sources), such as a history book.  Your class textbook is a secondary source.  Hopefully it shows/ quotes some primary sources in there.


  2. primary source is the original documents ,and secondary is letters and interviews or journals ,the first or primary source is what your paper should be based on,, from my daughter shes in the third year of college

  3. primary source is accurate. secondary can be doubted.
