Question:

7th grade math - What do you use?

We homeschool our children and for Math I have always used Modern Curriculum Press. Next year our son will be in 7th grade, and MCP only goes up through 6th. I know Saxon is an option, but I'm wondering what other people may have used, or what schools use besides MCP or Saxon. Thank you.

  1. I am in 7th grade right now and I used to do Saxon Math (which i love!) since 2nd grade, now I am using www.k12.com. It is a great online school system and it gives you all the supplies free! I would definitely try that if you live in the right states, hopefully you do.

  2. Saxon 7/6 or 8/7 would be my first choice.

Abeka also has a wonderful 7th grade math book. I love Abeka math up to grade 7, but Saxon is better after that.

  3. As an added reference book, check out the Illustrated Dictionary of Math from Usborne Books.  This book is a graphic illustration of WHY you do something and helps a student learn the reasoning behind the problem.  Great reference, through high school.  See it at http://www.ubah.com/g2687

  4. Were not in 7th grade yet but use Math U See and we love it. We are planning to continue using it until they graduate at this point unless they decide they want to try something else.

  5. We LOVE Teaching Textbooks:

My son is using Algebra I now and will use Geometry in the fall.

FWIW, my son would HATE Saxon - it's too dry and repetitive.

  6. We just discovered Teaching Textbooks and I can agree that the material is presented clearly in short lessons with progress through the material clearly indicated and plenty of practice.  My son loves it.  He never complained about math and catches on quickly, but he loves the independance and portability (via laptop he now does math in the car, etc).  We're using Math 5.  My son is much younger than yours.  We use the disks only.

  7. You could look at:

    Teaching Textbooks

    Chalkdust

Good luck finding something you like!

  8. I really like "Saxon Math".  You can go on their website and have your child write a placement test to determine the level.  After having said that, I hear "Teaching Textbooks" with their CD accompaniment  is an excellent program.  I think it would be beneficial in the higher grades when   they may need more help than I would feel comfortable giving.

  9. I finished the 7th grade a year or so ago. I use the A BEKA ACADEMY DVD PROGRAM there is a teacher teaching and shows you what to do and there is also kids in the classroom. Its a Christian text. All You have to do is check the work.
