I know this is pathetic on my part, but my son was asking me for help with a question on his 7th grade math problem. I did not know how to solve it. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME THE ANSWER AND EXPLAIN WHAT THEY DID TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

QUESTION: 35 / 13.3 = ? ( 35 divided by 13.3)

IT'S DIVIDING WITH THE DECIMAL THAT I AM UNSURE OF.

  1. 2.63 is the answer because if yhoo take out the decimal and add a zero on to the other number then do the mathmatical part it is 2.63...so you could always use a calculator and it will come up with 2.63-15789

  2. ok, i'm in year 7 and i just did this!

what i was taught to do was to pretend the decimal isn't there, eg. make it 35/133. the answer you get doing this is .263. then put the decimal point in the number of places to the right it is, eg. 2 places so move it in 2 places.

the answer for an average year 7 to put is 2.63

    the full answer is 2.6315789473684210526315789473684

  3. 35/13.3

    = 35 ÷ 13.3

    = 35 ÷ 133/10 ---------- write in the form of fraction

    = 35 × 10/133 ----------- Division is inverse of multiplication. (multiplicative inverse)

    = 350/133

    = 50/19 -------------- divide by 7 (partial division)

    = 2.632

    ---------

  4. use a caculator

  5. yeah looks like its been answered- if you do the same to the top AND the bottom ie multiply by 10, the ratio stays the same and therefore the answer, and youve eliminated that pesky decimal point in 13.3

its like 1000/100 is the same ratio as 100/10 (here i just divided both sides by 10) but the answer for both is the same

45/18.6 same as 225/93 (here i multiplied both sides by 5 as it makes the .6 into a whole number)

  6. 2.63157895 is the answer

  7. When dividing with decimals multiply 13.3 by 10. When doing this also multiply 35 by 10. then you have 133 and 350. From there on divide...

  8. When you put the problem in the traditional sideways L, you move the decimal over one space and add a zero to the 35.  Then you take a decimal and put it where the answer goes on the top part of the sideways L and finish dividing directly above where the decimal is on the now 350.  you should now be dividing 350 by 133  The answer should be 2.63.

  9. buy him a clculator and u'll never have to endure this patheticness again

  10. 0.35

  11. to make it easier, you can times both the numbers by 100 to get rid of the decimal place.

    so the equation becomes:

    350 / 133

now that should be a little easier. you still need to use the long division method.

    anyway 133 goes into 350 2 times, with a remainder of 84 (84/133)

    which is 12/19

so the answer is either 2 and 12/19 or  2. 6 (1 decimal place)
