Most insurance companies have a 6 month maternity clause, we make wayyyy too much for medicaid, and we dont qualify for the coverage that is for ppl that make too much to get on Medicaid. We tried Maternity Advantage and they turned out to be a scam pretty much.

So, how much was hospital stay in the end when giving birth?

How much do you think you spent total? From your first visit to the ultrasounds to the birthing process.. EVERYTHING.

Thank you all =(

  1. I can't (sorry) give you a quote for today's dollars, but I do have some HISTORICAL costs of four births I'm aware of:

Dad - Year 1925, Born at home in country, Country doctor named Spitler, unknown cost

Mom - Year 1927, Hospital, cost $35 (have the bill !)

    Friend's Son - Year 1978, Hospital, cost $700

Co-Worker's child - Year 1996, Hospital, no complications, cost $6000

If you're YOUNG & healthy, child's health monitored is preceived as healthy, no family history of oddities in birth, you may want a midwife and child being born at home... I would still have contact with an ambulance & hospital nearby incase things took a sudden turn.

And, maybe a hospital or clinic will work with you for a pre-pay or payment plan.  These costs are so inflated due to lawsuits and high-tech machinery.  Best to you!

  2. As posted earlier, most OB's offer cash discounted rates for pre-natal and delivery care, as do hospitals. They do (most of the time) require that the fees be paid in full by the time you deliver-so start checking now. The rates will differ from hospital to hospital but you need to ask about the rates for vaginal and c-section deliveries and what other charges you might be liable for such as epidurals, well-baby check (the pediatrician's check in the hospital before you can take that little bundle home--and don't forget to ask about the circumcision if it's a boy).

Of course, if you can, get coverage for the baby after it's born. do your research beforehand, so when the baby is born, all you need to do is send the check. Talk to an independant agent in your area. Also look into getting yourselves covered after the birth as well.

And--pray for an uncomplicated and healthy delivery!

  3. go to your local planned parenthood, it isn't just for teenagers and birth control...otherwise...it will cost you...a LOT.

  4. Depending on where you live and the hospital you choose you can pre pay for the delivery.  Call hospitals in your area and talk to them about a pre payment plan.  In VA Beach VA, I had a recent client pre-pay for a vaginal birth for $3,500.

Are you self employed? if so you may be eligible for a small group plan. Group insurance will cover pregnancy. Call a group health broker in your area they can give you the details.
