  1. No. But you do commit a foul and your opponent gets ball in hand.

  2. Not according to the world standardized rules.

    3.8 Losing the Rack

    The shooter loses if he

    (a) fouls when pocketing the eight ball;

    (b) pockets the eight ball before his group is cleared;

    (c) pockets the eight ball in an uncalled pocket; or

    (d) drives the eight ball off the table.

    These do not apply to the break shot. (See 3.3 Break Shot.)

    In this case, it would be a foul, so it would be your opponent's turn and he would get cue ball in hand anywhere on the table.

  3. no,

  4. Yes

  5. I play 8 ball competitively and it depends on the rules.

    Your opponent sometimes can pick the ball up and put it anywhere on the bable, behind the line, or in the 'D'. Alternatively, with some rules the opponent can play the white from where it stops, has 2 shots,  which may or may not carry after the first shot.

    The rules change from league to league, bar to bar and player to player.

    Either way, in the scenario you suggested, you do not automatically lose. Your opponent still has to clear his balls and the 8 ball.

  6. Under the official rules of the Billiard Congress of America, a game of 8-ball ends only when the 8-ball is pocketed.  If you fail to contact the 8-ball, it is a foul and the incoming player can place the cue-ball where ever they like (also called "Ball-In-Hand").

    In the American Poolplayers Association, you CAN lose if you pocket the cue-ball while attempting to pocket the 8-ball but failure to hit the 8-ball is only a foul where ball-in-hand is awarded.

    In most bars throughout America however, usually making no contact with the 8-ball while attempting to pocket it is a loss of game.  These rules are often laughed at by serious pool players though when in Rome, you do as the Romans.

    I hope this helps.  Let me know if you need further explanation.

  7. No..of course not. If you miss the shot completely then it's your opponents turn. If you make the shot but in the wrong pocket, or if you scratch the cue ball then you do lose

  8. Tricks right, play by BCA rules.  Thats is the best way to play, and the best players play by those rules.

  9. It   really   depends   on   the   house   rules.   Just   about  every   place   has   different   rules.   In   some   cases   this   situation   would   call   for   ball   in    hand   which   means   your   opponent  can   put   the   cue   ball   anywhere   on   the   table.   In   many   cases  though  it   is   your   opponents  turn

  10. yes you do.  and lose only has one "o".

  11. Yea i think so

  12. No, it is a foul and your opponent get a ball in hand.
