  1. GREAT IDEA

  2. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment behind this request, and I would like eight bells to be rung out prior to next years Kentucky Derby.....but like in the UK at New Year I would like them to ring out the old and ring in the new.

The old being the appaling and unsuitable conditions that horses have had to race on over the years without consideration for their breeding.

Some horses have a high knee action (they enjoy cut in the ground) every time their legs strike the ground on dirt, especially rain sodden dirt, they are hitting concrete.  Case in question George Washington in the Breeders Cup Classic last year.  A sad waste of a beautiful animal and the blame lies not only with the course, but with the trainer and owners for running him.

Other horses have a what we call a 'daisy cutting' action.  They are better suited to racing on firm ground and better results will be produced.

Change to turf and polytrack and get rid of the dirt.

Change number 2 - Ban all medication immediately and bring American horse racing into line with racing in Europe.

Just these two changes alone would begin to make a difference.

Ring in the New with the introduction of a Governing Body to oversee the welfare of horses and to rid the sport of the few who by their crooked actions and deeds spoil it for the majority.

I would love to hear those Eight Belles toll next year and with each toll we would remember all those who have gone before this amazing filly and those who have sadly followed her in the year which will by then have passed.

Let the 'Belles' ring out and let the power of the people who undoubtedly love this sport and the beautiful free spirits who give their all without question, lobby those in the highest positions of power to bring about change.

  3. I didn't bet on Eight Belles just because it just didn't seem right to put a wager on a horse named after a solemn funeral service.  No need to carry on that curse.

  4. No I won't

because many horse's  have died that you don't even know about!

And those horse's were just as good as she was !

I feel this has gone Way to far

If you only knew about the other's you would be ringing that bell all day long

I appreciate your feeling for her,, but what about all  the others ?? Many horse's have broken down during the derby  why not name them also ????/

  5. good idea...for whom the bell tolls...got my vote...

  6. i will (:

  7. What are you talking about Wonderful Profesor?

Eight Belles was NOT put in over her head she beat 18

males and loss to an undefeated super horse...

Was Barbaro in over his head too?

Stop blaming the trainer for entering her in the derby...

    and to counter your *TIP*

Females are equal in the Political world???

Hey, Hillary Clinton is in over her head... If she wasn't connected to Bill Clinton, she would have been out before Senator Biden

Yes I will support ringing 8 Bells for Eight Belles...

    Ring 8 for Hillary too

  8. You get a star for spreading the word about this!!  :o)

  9. I signed it.

  10. That is an AWESOME idea!!! Hope it works:) I'm signing up and so will my friend who were also there!

  11. could some one please tell me how much Eight Belles was insured for.

  12. This is not the only time a horse has been put down.

I wonder about the precedent that would be set.  I would like to see a few minutes of video about the horse to be shown on the CCTV at the track.

But, still, I shall sign the petition.

Tip:  It is in the political world that females are "equal" to males.  Not so in horse racing.   This filly was put in over her head.   Too bad.  She was a fine little pony.

  13. Thankyou!! I will do it.

  14. Thank you for doing this.  I signed it!
