  1. It allows for more variation in DNA

    because of

    1-crossing over: sections of homologous chromosomes switch, creating new combinations of genes

    2- random assortment: when tetrads line up during metaphase 1, they can go in different arrangements, so if the original cell has HG and hg, gametes with Hg, hg, HG, and hG can be produced

    3-during meiosis, double-stranded damage in DNA is repaired, sending healthy genomes on to offspring

    in asexual reproduction, however, there is no variation, so the chance of creating an adapted offspring is much less
