8 ball billiards pool rules scratch 8 ball lose?

on my last shot, only the 8 ball left, if i miss hitting the 8 ball is that an auto lose? or is that a scratch and the opponent goes next?

that would be a house rule... in league pool it would be ball in hand. official rules say the 8 is the object ball and the games ends when it is made correctly or not. (if the object ball is on the table the game is not over) Good Luck

If you miss the 8 ball it is not a loss of game but a foul and your opponent gets a ball in hand.  You only lose the game if you either scratched the cue ball or put the 8 ball in a pocket other than what you marked.

It is not an auto loss.  Depending on your rules the opponent gets ball-in-hand (picks up the cueball and puts it anywhere on the table).

If you hit the 8-ball and it goes in a pocket that you did not call - you automatically lose.

If you hit the 8-ball and it does not go in any pocket - the opponent then gets to shoot.
