Question:

8 ball pool rules ?

I was playing pool with a friend and we got down to the 8 ball my friend potted it but in the same shot he potted the white cue ball - just before the black... I thought I won as that was a foul but he insists he won ?

...according to the rules who won ? I can't find an answer!

  2. You would win.  You can not pocket the 8 ball and scratch in the same shot and win.  However, if you are playing ball in hand rules (which everyone should) scratching on the 8 ball without pocketing the 8 is just a BIH for your opponent.  Good luck, and keep rackin em up!

  3. Depends on which league rules you were playing by. In some leagues, a scratch on the eight ball is a ball in hand foul (altho making the 8 in the same shot is always a loss).

    Not familiar with UK rules. But I don't see any way he can claim a win.

  4. International rules have become standardized for 8-ball. You'll find them here: http://www.bca-pool.com/play/tournaments...

    The International rules will soon trump any other regional rules. Even we Yankees are willing to accept them. These rules also make 8-ball better for TV viewing so it can compete with 9-ball and Texas hold 'em

    Here's the excerpt from the relevant section:

    "4.20   LOSS OF GAME

    A player loses the game by committing any of the following infractions:  

    1.         Fouls when pocketing the 8-ball (exception: see 8-Ball Pocketed On The Break).

    2.         Pockets the 8-ball on the same stroke as the last of his group of balls.

    3.         Jumps the 8-ball off the table at any time.  

    4.         Pockets the 8-ball in a pocket other than the one designated.  

    5.         Pockets the 8-ball when it is not the legal object ball.
