If the 8 ball and the one solid ball is remaining can you do a combo from the one solid ball to the 8 ball and knock the 8 ball in the pocket to win the game....

remind you that i have solids my buddy has stripes... it is his turn and near the corner pocket is the 8 ball but my 1 solid ball is blocking it so he says if you call a combo then you can hit the 1 solid ball with then hits the 8 ball and put's the 8 ball in the corner pocket then he wins.... I need to know if that's true or not.. Thank you

  1. No uninformed answers yet.  It's not legal.  Here's the pertinent WPA rule:

    6.2 Wrong Ball First

    In those games which require the first object ball struck to be a particular ball or one of a group of balls, it is a foul for the cue ball to first contact any other ball.

    But also applicable is:

    3.8 Losing the Rack

    The shooter loses if he

    (a) fouls when pocketing the eight ball;

    So your "buddy" loses the game.

  2. The answer to the first paragraph is a resounding "NO".

    To the second paragraph... your friend is wrong. The '8' ball is never neutral. You cannot legally play a combo by hitting the '8' ball into your ball and continue shooting. You cannot legally play a carom off the '8' ball into your ball and continue shooting. Both situations are illegal. You lose your shot in both situations. And if you are playing league... opponent gets ball-in-hand. You always have to hit your ball first for a good hit.

  3. No you can`t hit the others players ball before you hit your ball, you have to hit your ball then it dont matter if he hit there ball or not. So he would have lost and not you

  4. No.  The 8 ball always has to be the last shot and always has to be a completely separate shot.  If you sink the 8 ball in from a combination shot it is loss of game.  Not only that but if your friend is shooting stripes and uses a solid for the combination it is a foul since he isn't hitting his category of ball.

  5. No, he couldn't be more wrong, and you should get him a BCA rules book.

  6. NO !!!
