It has been this way for hours. Maybe she scratched at it but you would think it would have healed by now. Do you guys think it could be anything serious?

If it is still red in the morning I will call the doctor.

  1. make sure nothing is in there that might be irritating it, maybe something rubbed against it, maybe it got scratched. I wouldn't worry too much. If it starts to swell or gets hot to the touch then you know it is an infection that needs to be tended to. Babies often scratch themselves.

  2. When our son was  8 months old he discovered his belly button and would spend soooo much time pinching it and poking at it!! It was always red and there was nothing we could do about it...I would check to make sure there is nothing in it, but chances are she may just be playing with it when you are noticing. Best of luck!

  3. Probably not anything serious. Definitely worth a call to the doc. My daughter gets really red and irritated in her creases in her neck and the pediatrician said to apply Aquaphor to irritated areas so you could try that or if you don't have it some vaseline might help. We've done the Aquaphor with my daughter and it does help.
